Frequently Asked Questions About Treatment in China
Answers to the 30+ questions most often raised by Malaysian patients and their families before, during and after travelling to China for treatment, using transparent public Grade 3A clinical standards to remove the barriers of cross-border care and payment.
Feasibility of Treatment in China & Clinical Assessment
Recognition of Malaysian medical records, referral standards for advanced complex cases, and the preliminary assessment pathway at China's Grade 3A hospitals
Are medical records and original CT / MRI image discs from Malaysian private or public hospitals recognised by Chinese Grade 3A hospitals?
Fully recognised, with a standardised transfer pathway. Grade 3A hospitals directly under China's National Health Commission accept internationally standard raw DICOM image formats as well as English-language pathology slides prepared under Malaysian professional practice standards (Histopathology / Immunohistochemistry IHC reports).
- Cloud import and re-reading of raw DICOM images: We seamlessly extract imaging discs from major Malaysian private hospitals (such as Prince Court, Gleneagles, Subang Jaya) or state GH facilities and connect directly to the Grade 3A PACS system in China for multidisciplinary re-reading.
- Bilingual translation to National Health Commission standards: Specialists with practising physician qualifications translate English discharge summaries (Discharge Summary), PET-CT and genomic reports into standardised Chinese clinical records.
- Avoiding repeat invasive tests: Apart from the required real-time pre-operative four-item blood infection panel and current vital signs, qualifying Malaysian tissue slides and imaging taken within 30 days are directly mutually recognised.
The patient has already entered palliative care, or the Malaysian doctor says "no further surgery is possible" - is treatment in China still worthwhile?
It depends on the patient's confirmed pathological molecular subtype and performance status (ECOG score). China's national cancer medicine centres and leading general Grade 3A hospitals hold globally advanced technology and clinical trial pipelines in complex borderline tumours and end-of-line salvage treatment:
How do we know whether the patient is suitable to travel to China? Must a large sum be paid upfront?
Not at all. YILV CHINA operates a zero-risk preliminary assessment process. Until a department head-level specialist at an authoritative Grade 3A hospital in China confirms willingness to accept the patient, we neither charge fees blindly nor waste cross-border travel.
Covers: professional translation and clinical restructuring of the complete English medical record from Malaysia (including pathology and imaging material), submission and hospital coordination at the relevant Grade 3A department including appointment and record registration, and a written specialist review opinion from a department head-level physician on the feasibility of accepting the case.
Costs, International Settlement & Malaysian Insurance Claims
Transparent corporate-to-corporate hospital accounts, Visa/MasterCard international settlement, and the claim standards of major Malaysian insurers
Can medical expenses be paid directly at a Chinese Grade 3A hospital with a Malaysian credit card or by overseas telegraphic transfer?
Absolutely. YILV CHINA adheres to a strict three-channel fund segregation policy. The platform never operates an intermediate fund pool: every cent of medical fees goes directly to the official finance system of the public Grade 3A hospital:
Based on the official "International Patient Admission Payment Notice" issued by the Grade 3A hospital, the patient's family makes a direct TT telegraphic transfer from a major Malaysian commercial bank to the hospital's official dedicated corporate account.
The hospital's international medical settlement counter fully supports Malaysian Visa and MasterCard credit cards and immediately issues an official medical invoice supervised by the Ministry of Finance of the People's Republic of China.
Record translation and cross-border coordination fees are paid to YILV CHINA's legally registered Malaysian corporate account, with locally tax-compliant invoices issued throughout the process. No private cash transactions are accepted; medical fees and on-ground care fees are paid by the patient directly to the hospital.
Can Malaysian commercial insurance (Great Eastern, Prudential, AIA, Allianz and others) or Takaful be claimed at Chinese public Grade 3A hospitals?
Most mainstream premium medical cards and critical illness policies in Malaysia support reimbursement of reasonable and necessary overseas medical expenses, usually through a pre-travel pre-authorisation channel or a post-hospitalisation claim filed after returning to Malaysia:
- Recognition of public hospital status: Major Malaysian insurers recognise the status of Chinese "Grade 3 Class A (Grade 3A)" public hospitals.
- Coordinated pre-authorisation: Once Chinese specialists have prepared a preliminary plan, YILV CHINA jointly issues a full set of neutral English medical recommendations and a budget overview for the family to submit to the insurer's agent for notification.
- Complete documented claim file on return: At discharge, the receiving hospital team helps obtain a bilingual consolidated cost statement, itemised daily breakdowns, the discharge summary and pathology reports, all stamped with the hospital's foreign affairs or medical administration seal, meeting the assessment requirements of major Malaysian insurers.
What exactly does the USD 300 fee charged by the platform cover? Will there be any hidden charges?
We commit to no hidden terms of any kind and no secondary charges. Receiving your materials and carrying out the initial completeness screening is free and creates no obligation. The USD 300 is a fixed fee for record restructuring and specialist review, with services listed clearly:
Service endpoint and exclusions: Once hospital coordination and appointment/record registration are complete, the platform service ends; subsequent treatment, admission and in-hospital communication in China are handled by the receiving hospital team. Companionship inside the hospital, airport transfers and ground handling, travel, accommodation, visa and check-up costs, and all medical fees charged by the hospital are not included.
Visa Processing, Family Companionship & Living Arrangements
Visa-free entry scheduling, expedited S2 medical escort visas, and in-China bilingual accompaniment (provided by the receiving hospital team)
What visa do Malaysian citizens need to travel to China? Is the 30-day visa-free policy sufficient?
For different treatment timelines, we offer flexible and practical visa application and stay solutions:
Malaysian passport holders can travel directly under the 30-day visa-free policy for China, suitable for a quick specialist outpatient review, repeat imaging or a minimally invasive day-case assessment.
Once the Grade 3A hospital confirms that it will accept the patient, an official "Medical Invitation Letter" is issued on an expedited basis, and we assist the patient and up to two immediate family carers in applying at the Chinese Visa Application Service Centre in Malaysia for an S2 medical escort visa (the permitted stay is decided case by case by the issuing authority; confirm at application).
If clinical needs require further inpatient observation, the receiving hospital team assists in issuing the extension document, and family members can apply for the visa extension on the spot at the local public security exit-entry administration, with no need to travel in and out of the country.
If we do not speak Mandarin and use only English or Malay (Bahasa Melayu), will we face communication barriers?
You can be completely reassured. The receiving hospital team is staffed with senior accompaniment advisors with Chinese, English and Malay language backgrounds.
From private car airport transfers, hospital ward registration, department head ward rounds and consultations, pre-operative informed consent briefings and discharge instructions, the receiving hospital team arranges bilingual accompaniment to provide on-site interpretation, eliminating any language or terminology errors.
Halal Dining & Religious Life Assurance
End-to-end certified halal catering, apartments with dedicated kitchenware, and prayer guidance for Muslim families
How do Muslim family members arrange authentic halal food (Makanan Halal) and daily prayers (Ibadah)?
Partner hospitals all have dedicated halal canteens, or designated Islamic restaurants nearby deliver meals directly to the ward. For families providing long-term care, we book medical apartments equipped with separate, unopened halal kitchenware so they can cook for themselves.
We provide calibrated Kiblat direction stickers for the ward and new prayer mats (Sejadah), together with dedicated car transfers to well-known local mosques for prayers (such as Niujie Mosque in Beijing and Xiaotaoyuan Mosque in Shanghai).
